Transporting tanks and silos

Tanks and silos are large but often comparatively light and thin-walled. The challenge lies in diameter and length – and in not denting the walls when lashing.

What matters

Volume rather than weight
Large but not necessarily heavy – width and height are usually the limiting factor.
Thin walls
Choose lashing and supports so that nothing is dented.
Horizontal or upright
Usually transported horizontally, erected at destination.
Stainless steel and plastic
Sensitive surfaces need protection.

Planning questions

We clarify these points before quoting – the earlier they are known, the more precise the plan.

  1. What diameter, length and weight?
  2. What material?
  3. Are there transport frames or supports?
  4. Is it erected at destination?
  5. How much space is there for a crane?

What we need from you

  • Dimensions and weight
  • Material
  • Installation site
  • Time window

Preparation: You hand over the cargo ready for loading with known lifting points – dismantling, assembly and foundation work are handled by your team or your installation partner.

What we do for you

What we organise

  • Feasibility check per project with questions on missing values
  • Coordination of permits, escort vehicles, route surveys and lifting equipment via partners
  • Quote with the agreed scope once the transport can be planned

Good to know

A finished foundation at the installation site keeps delivery simple – we plan crane and lift to match.

How it works

  1. 01

    Request

You state the cargo, dimensions and weight per piece with units, rough route and time window – marking anything unknown.

  2. 02

    Review

We check dimensions and route and clarify vehicle, supports, permit and crane.

  3. 03

    Quote

After the feasibility check you receive a quote with the agreed scope, including partner services.

  4. 04

    Execution

Transport after permit, erecting with partner crane.

Questions and answers: Tanks and silos

Are tanks and silos heavy transports?

Often not heavy but large. Diameter and length usually make them out-of-gauge.

How is damage to thin-walled tanks prevented?

Through suitable supports and lashing that exert no point pressure.

Can a silo be erected at destination?

Yes, with partner cranes. The foundation must be prepared.

A short description is enough.

Dimensions per piece (L × W × H)

Please with unit. Comma or point as decimal separator, e.g. 3.85 m.

Can the load be divided? (optional)
Known loading conditions (optional)

What should we coordinate via our partners? (optional)

Whether and to what extent anything is needed is checked per project.

You can send technical drawings after our first reply. Unknown values lead to questions – not to an estimated price commitment.
