Cargo

Transporting large rolls

Rolls for rolling mills, paper and film machines or calenders are heavy, round and have precision surfaces. They travel between plant and grinding shop or manufacturer – often in a cycle with spare rolls.

What matters

Round and heavy
Rolls are supported on stands and secured against rolling.
Surface
Barrel and journals are precision-ground and protected.
Slinging
Lifting takes place at the journals or with suitable spreader beams.
Cycle
Roll to the grinding shop, spare roll back – plan both legs.

Planning questions

We clarify these points before quoting – the earlier they are known, the more precise the plan.

  1. Which roll, with length, diameter and weight?
  2. Are there transport stands?
  3. How is lifting done?
  4. Outbound and return?
  5. Is there a shutdown date?

What we need from you

  • Dimensions and weight
  • Support
  • Route
  • Dates

Preparation: You hand over the cargo ready for loading with known lifting points – dismantling, assembly and foundation work are handled by your team or your installation partner.

What we do for you

What we organise

  • Feasibility check per project with questions on missing values
  • Coordination of permits, escort vehicles, route surveys and lifting equipment via partners
  • Quote with the agreed scope once the transport can be planned

Good to know

Tell us the support points of the roll – we secure it so that surface and journals stay protected.

How it works

  1. 01

    Request

You state the cargo, dimensions and weight per piece with units, rough route and time window – marking anything unknown.

  2. 02

    Review

We check dimensions, weight and support and clarify vehicle and permit.

  3. 03

    Quote

After the feasibility check you receive a quote with the agreed scope, including partner services.

  4. 04

    Execution

Transport on stands after permit, outbound and return as planned.

Questions and answers: Rolls and rollers

How are heavy rolls secured against rolling?

On transport stands or in cradles, with wedges and lashing according to weight.

How is the roll surface protected?

By support on the journals or suitable cradles and protection at contact points.

Can a spare roll be taken along at the same time?

Yes, if dates and vehicle fit. Outbound and return are planned together.

Please with unit. Comma or point as decimal separator, e.g. 3.85 m.

Can the load be divided? (optional)
Known loading conditions (optional)

What should we coordinate via our partners? (optional)

Whether and to what extent anything is needed is checked per project.

You can send technical drawings after our first reply. Unknown values lead to questions – not to an estimated price commitment.
